KENYA - RUIRU and KIJABE
IBL has trained leaders in Kenya since 2012.
We are currently investing in two sets of students, one located in suburban Nairobi, in the community of Ruiru, and a second group in Kijabe, located at the edge of the Rift Valley about two hours northwest of Nairobi.
When these two groups of students complete their training in 2024, we anticipate having at least six men ready to serve alongside us as trainers in six training sites throughout Kenya and Uganda.
TANZANIA - MWANZA
In Mwanza we are training exclusively with the Tanzanian ministry team of Twelve21Global. This group includes pastors, elementary school teachers, and administrators.
Starting in 2023, we will conduct training conferences every March and September through 2025, to provide the entire Twelve21Global team a solid foundation in theology, ministry, and especially leadership. Beyond the training sessions, these leaders will receive additional mentoring to prepare them to invest in new members of the Twelve21Global team.
UGANDA - mbarara
Pastor Allan Tayebwa is currently receiving training through our Ruiru, Kenya location. He is also being mentored to oversee and train with us. Beginning in 2024, we hope to initiate a three-year training program in Allan’s home area of Mbarara.
The training in Uganda will closely align to the curriculum, pedagogy, and sequencing being used in Kenya. We anticipate a student body of approximately thirty-five pastors and church leaders, with several of these being mentored for training other pastors.
South Central Asia
Within VIEW of the Himalayas
Christians in this region of the world are suffering through a period of increasing harassment and persecution for more than a decade. Mob violence and illegitimate arrests of pastors and evangelists are all too frequent. David Phelan, IBL’s President, has been banned from travelling to the country due to his work with these persecuted leaders.
For this reason, the IBL training team and our students travel to a border town in an adjacent country (about six hours of travel by bus for our students) to continue training on topics of biblical leadership.
ELSEWHERE IN THE REGION
Further to the south, we are working to respond to two additional opportunities in this region of rapid evangelism in the face of persecution.
One of these is in partnership with an established Bible institute, which desires us to have an in-depth focus on practical Biblical leadership. The other site involves training area pastors in the essentials of theology, Bible study, and leadership.
Lord willing, as He provides US partners and funding, we will kick-off these ministries in late 2024.
South East Asia
VIETNAM
IBL has trained pastors and ministry leaders in Vietnam since 1998. In that time, our training program has undergone several different seasons of ministry, based on the needs of the students, the opportunities presented to us, and the felt-needs of our in-country coordinators. The most recent era came to an abrupt close in 2020 due to Covid, with training necessarily suspended by government regulation from 2020 to 2022.
Lord willing, in 2024 we will begin a new season of training Vietnamese pastors, in the areas of essential Christian theology, Word-based pastoral ministry, and biblical leadership. We are currently investigating a number of potential sites and are in discussions with several leaders regarding serving as training coordinators. We look forward to again be laboring in this important area of Asia.
South America
Ecuador - MACHALA
Starting in early 2023, we began training over thirty-five men and women from Machala and elsewhere in this South American region. This program runs for four years with two training conferences each year. Topics include theological essentials, Word-based pastoral ministry, and biblical leadership.
Six students will receive additional training and mentoring, enabling them to train alongside IBL’s trainers. These in-country trainers will carry the program forward in a self-sustaining manner, with Ecuadorians training other Ecuadorians, in their own culture and ministry context.
